More Ports or More Time? A Differeant Way to Think About Cruise Itineraries

Why Slowing Down Can Change the Way You Travel

One of the most common questions I hear when people are choosing a cruise is:

"Which itinerary visits the most places?"

It's an understandable question. After all, if you're traveling all the way to Europe, Alaska, or the Mediterranean, it's tempting to fit as much as possible into one trip.

But over the years, I've learned that some of my favorite travel memories didn't come from seeing more places. They came from having enough time to truly enjoy the places I was already visiting.

I remember afternoons spent wandering through a city with no agenda. A long lunch overlooking a harbor. A conversation with a local shop owner. Finding a quiet street a few blocks away from the crowds.

Those moments rarely happen when you're racing from one attraction to the next.

That's one reason I often encourage travelers to look beyond the number of ports on an itinerary and consider how they'll actually experience each destination.

A cruise can be a wonderful way to see the world, but the destinations are more than stops on a schedule. They're places with stories, culture, and character. Sometimes having a little extra time can make all the difference.

That doesn't mean every traveler should choose the slowest itinerary possible. Some people enjoy active, port-intensive voyages, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The goal isn't to travel slower for the sake of traveling slower.

The goal is to travel in a way that feels right for you.

Whether that means exploring every port from sunrise to sunset or lingering over a long meal in a waterfront café, the best journeys are the ones that reflect your interests and travel style.

As a travel advisor, that's where I focus my attention—not simply finding a cruise, but helping travelers choose experiences that fit the way they want to see the world.

Because sometimes the most memorable part of a journey isn't how many places you visited.

It's how deeply you experienced them.

Every traveler experiences the world differently. If you're considering a cruise and wondering which itinerary is right for you, I'd be happy to help you explore the options.
